Converted from a barn where pigs once dwelled, The Empress of Blandings, takes it's name from the fictional pig in the series of Blandings Castle novels and stories by P G Wodehouse.

Light and bright, in beautiful gardens, with views to the fields beyond and informal tracks leading down to tranquil banks of the River Deben, this homely barn conversion has a relaxed and simple appeal. Enter the barn, into the sitting room with sofa, table and chairs. A staircase leads up the mezzanine level, where the double bed, chest of drawers and hanging rail are. (Guests who are tall, will need to take care due to the alcoved ceiling, on this level) To the left of the sitting room is the kitchen area, and shower room.

*"A truly charming and a blissful place, hidden in the middle of rural Sufffolk. Well presented, cosy and cleverly designed cottage with a massive garden and back space for picnics or strolling A perfect hidaway for a quiet escape to the countryside.....

There are many beautiful walks from the doorstep and, should they be required, a good selection of charming and characterful country pubs to keep you hydrated along the way.
This part of Suffolk also seems to be particularly popular with cyclists, as there is relatively little traffic passing through these quiet country lanes. (Remember your helmet, lights and reflective clothing) The properties in this rural lane have water supplied by a well (no buckets required!).

    • Sitting Room: with sofa, table and chairs, chaise longue, storage heater
    • Kitchenette: with microwave oven, fridge, induction hob, small oven, butler sink and wooden units
    • Shower Room: with wc, wash basin, shower
    • Mezzanine: Stairs lead up from the sitting room to the mezzanine level with double bed and hanging rail
    • Outside: overlooking the gardens, and with walks through the gardens down to the River Deben. There is a secluded patio and garden area with table and chairs, behind the barn.

A truly charming and a blissful place, hidden in the middle of rural Sufffolk. Well presented, cosy and cleverly designed cottage with a massive garden and back space for picnics or strolling A perfect hidaway for a quiet escape to the countryside, We had a magical stay over the Easter weekend with beautiful walks around the village, and a trip to the coast. Very friendly and accomodating host. Higly recommended place Anna, (Stayed April 2024)
Beautiful and tranquil place perfect for what we needed. very thoughtful and lovely hosts! Alice, (Stayed September 2023)
Beautiful and peaceful location in a wonderful part of gorgeous Suffolk. The owners were lovely, kind and very thoughtful and their cat was the most purrfect host! Lots of great pubs nearby, we particularly liked The Crown Inn at Great Glemham, not just because they filmed Detecterists there ;) but the food was excellent and the owner and staff were friendly and welcoming. The converted barn is a fab place to stay if you want to visit Sutton Hoo or the beach as both were easy to get to. Excellent for a digital rest, no WiFi or phone signal, just nature and a lovely garden to relax in. Nicky, (Stayed July 2023)
The cottage is situated in the grounds of the owners’ home which is an absolutely beautiful setting. The hosts were also extremely friendly and left us some basic provisions (read freshly baked muffins) for our arrival! Rebecca, (Stayed May 2023)
“Thank you, we don’t have any criticism! we had a really lovely stay:)” Catherine, (Stayed February 2023)
Such a lovely experience, hosts were so welcoming and we felt right at home. A beautiful place in a beautiful location, would 100% go back. Couldn’t have asked for more Caitlin, (Stayed August 2022)
A wonderful retreat away from city life, with everything you need for a relaxing break! An easy drive away from Aldeburgh where you can enjoy top notch fish & chips on the beach and buy fresh fish from the fishing huts… or just relax in the barn and enjoy the peace and quiet with Vinnie the super friendly cat! Sophie, (Stayed August 2022)
We couldn’t have asked for a more homely home for the weekend. Sarah and Paddy made us feel so welcomed. We will definitely be coming back to this peaceful gem! Flo, (Stayed May 2022)
We had a lovely stay…perfect for unwinding as there is no WiFi or TV so bring lots to read! A cosy place with ‘welcome’ flapjacks which were delicious. Lovely hosts who were very helpful and offered lots of advice about the local area. Very quiet and secluded. Jill, (Stayed October 2021)

“Wonderful warmth and hospitality in this quirky, peaceful, digital-free corner of Suffolk. Highly recommended.” Dawn, (Stayed October 2019)
The Empress of Blandings is a charming cottage in a lovely location. The hosts show great hospitality and the cottage is very comfortable. Take a walk down to the river and get on the swing over it if you dare.. John, (Stayed September 2019)
Imagination. Belonging. Generosity of spirit. These are buzz words that you can read in any corporate brochure these days, meaning very little when it comes to onsite service. So it's particularly gratifying when you find these values in action, with no particular fanfare, down an an unassuming country road. Actually, even though there is complete silence on arrival you ARE greeted by a fanfare of colour from the orchestra of flowers that almost put Disney to shame in their animated glory. The garden is a complete delight and you relax into it within minutes, dropping deeper into a kind of natural mediation as the hours pass. The 'cottage' is everything you dream of as both a child and adult - a tree house with amenities, though very firmly rooted on the ground with a mezzanine bed space. It just feels like your fantasy place in the country Tom, (Stayed August 2019)
A fantastic weekend spent in Paddy and Sarah's Cottage. A beautiful setting surrounded by Suffolk's stunning scenery. Had lovely walks on the property and enjoyed venturing out too. Would recommend staying here to anyone who wants to get away from their busy working life - would LOVE to stay again!! David, (Stayed July 2019)
A lovely quirky little wooden house with comfortable bed on mezzanine floor. Very friendly hosts and extensive beautiful gardens with walks down to the river where we saw an otter. The house is compact with a small oven but is perfect for a short stay and there are local eateries also Simon, (Stayed June 2019)
Homely, welcoming and very helpful. Beautiful part of the country, would recommend for a quiet getaway. Jennie, (Stayed June 2019)
Super peaceful retreat in a wonderful garden. Not for wifi addicts, but if you want a release from all screens this is highly recommended. Sarah and Paddy are extremely thoughtful, relaxed and hospitable hosts Dawn, (Stayed April 2019)
If you want to relax on your own or with plus one, or with friends, or family then this is here you should be looking at amazing placings to stay. Fantastic hospitality, bread and home made jam, tea bags, coffee, milk, butter or vitalite in the fridge - it was warm and cozy (December booking) and after our long drive it surpassed our expectations. I don't think they could have done anything better and the best part is you can have a cup of tea and a chat on your arrival and discover things about each other which is actually totally refreshing, then you can go and meet the chickens which lay the eggs for breakfast Sheila, (Stayed December 2018)
Really lovely spot and gorgeous place to stay. The layout of the accommodation is really clever, being cosy but also spacious. Very comfortable bed, amazing views and garden to wander in, great facilities and amenities, lovely hosts and little touches that made us feel really welcome. We stayed at Christmas time and were very warm. Would love to visit in the summer as the surroundings are stunning Dominique, (Stayed December 2018)
Sarah and Paddy made us feel like we had a home away from home. The cottage is very stylish, comfortable and well equipped. The absence of WiFi and television made it the restful get away that we needed. Although they have only recently joined Airbnb they have been hosting guests here for years! This means that they know how much the small things matter such as arriving to tea, fresh coffee, milk, eggs, butter, margarine.... Their local knowledge too meant that we had the best introduction to Suffolk that we could have hoped for from recommendations for fish and chips to walks and local pub food. We will definitely be back! Michael, (Stayed August 2018)
Honoured to be the first guests! Beautiful space with a particularly cool garden where you can eat breakfast overlooking a river. Hosts were very sweet and would go back. Thanks! Paul, (Stayed August 2018)
