Surrounded by wet meadows and rolling countryside, Framlingham Castle is a stroll away from the market square. Walk around the top of the castle walls and enjoy the superb far reaching views across the beautiful Mere: home to a wonderful array of migrating birds and wildlife, and rural Suffolk beyond.
Since 1285, stallholders have gathered in the Market Square to sell their produce. On a Tuesday and Saturday, a small and lively market still takes place and proves to be very popular with locals and tourists alike. Expect a mixture of fruit and veg, plants, bread, fresh fish, local crafts, and artisan goods.
If you are interested in Framlingham’s history, the Town Trail is a great way of making sure that you don’t miss anything. You can print a guide to accompany you as you explore, or download an audio guide, then simply follow the metal plaques that are around the town.
Many events take place in Framlingham throughout the year; such as the Sausage Festival, the Country Show and numerous family-friendly activities hosted by the Castle. It is worth visiting Framlingham's own website, to get the very latest news and updates. With tea rooms, cafes, and pubs, Framlingham is an ideal place to stay for a long weekend or family holiday. Why not stay in one of our self-catering holiday cottages, and explore historic Framingham and the coastal towns of Woodbridge, Aldeburgh, and Southwold which are all a short drive away.
