The historic market town sits on the banks of the River Deben. Served by its own train station, it is easily accessed by those looking to escape to the countryside.

Stroll down the Thoroughfare, Woodbridge’s main shopping street, where you will find the award winning Cake Shop bakery, as well as several lovely, independent coffee shops. Continue your tour to the old Market Hill, where the Town Hall sits proudly between a number of independent clothes shops, and further places to stop for a coffee and cake.

The river front provides opportunity to visit Britain’s first, and last, working Tide Mill, and to observe the array of boats, of many shapes and sizes, moored up along the banks. Continue east to reach the riverside path, extending into the countryside up to Kyson Point; a landscape, captured by the 17th century local artist Thomas Churchyard, that has changed very little.

Across the river is Sutton Hoo, where a large Anglo Saxon ship burial was famously found in the early 20th century. Take a trip to the visitor centre for a fascinating exploration of the area’s history.

What’s more, Woodbridge provides the perfect base for visiting other parts of Suffolk’s Heritage Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, such as Orford, Aldeburgh and Southwold.
